Martyn Seal is the Sustainability Director for PepsiCo International Europe. He coordinates the Environmental Sustainability agenda across 14 different countries and across all the different areas of the PepsiCo supply chain.
He has worked for PepsiCo for 15 years mainly in Operational leadership roles and after leading the UK Sustainability agenda has now branched out to cover the whole of Europe.
The PepsiCo UK team have been working closely with its suppliers to galvanise action on climate change, water use and resource depletion. The Walkers crisp brand was the first product to adopt and retain the Carbon Reduction label. This activity has resulted in significant collaboration efforts with all its suppliers including its Agricultural partners. This approach is being applied to all food and beverage products in the PepsiCo portfolio.

David Lawrence is responsible for the Procurement Governance activities at Diageo, which covers risk management processes with suppliers, Sarbanes Oxley compliance, contract management and Corporate Social Responsibility work, as well as Procedures and Policies development for Procurement.
After graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, David held several Project Engineering roles with Eden Vale and Guinness (now Diageo). Then moved through a number of positions in Engineering and Operations management, including several overseas roles in Africa, becoming a qualified brewer and gaining a Diploma in Management Studies along the way. Now working in Procurement, David looks to bring this technical background to practical use when balancing the ever increasing compliance pressures with the commercial realities of a customer/supplier relationship in the Supply Chain. Included in this experience is implementation of ISO 14001 and managing a wide range of environmental impact reduction projects.
In his current role, David is also a member of the corporate Environmental Working Group that reports to the CEO and who are leading Diageo's drive to reduce their impact across the Supply Chain.

Andy Wales is Group Head of Sustainable Development for SABMiller plc, one of the world’s largest brewers. In this capacity he leads the group's approach to a diverse range of environmental and social issues including climate change, water management, enterprise development, human rights, HIV/Aids and corporate social investment.
Previously Andy held Corporate Responsibility Director roles at the environmental services group Severn Trent, and textiles firm Interface, Inc.
He holds an MBA from Warwick Business School, a masters degree in Sustainable Development Strategy from Middlesex University and a BA in English and International Development from Sussex University.
He is Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts and of Forum for the Future. His favourite beers include Peroni, Royal Challenge (India) and Miller Chill

Nicko Debenham is Armajaro Trading Limited's (ATL) Head of Traceability & Sustainability (T&S) and has been instrumental in the development and launch of Source Trust (www.sourcetrust.org). Nicko joined ATL in 2002 to assume responsibility for developing the Group's cocoa sourcing activities in West Africa and was appointed to the ATL Board in 2004. Nicko is now deeply involved in setting up traceability projects in origin countries and in the marketing of the concept of traceability. Bringing with him over 20 years in the industry, with a particular focus on West Africa, Nicko has a wealth of local and international contacts. Through his work with the chocolate industry on one side and industry and development bodies such as the World Cocoa Foundation, the Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation and many other leading organizations on the other side, he is instrumental in shaping the subject and is leading the debate around the world for the development of T&S in cocoa.

Ian joined Cadbury in the summer of 1996 as an ambitious young graduate chemical engineer. Thrust straight into the world of production management he quickly discovered the scale of the Cadbury Bournville operation when for his first appointment he was asked to manage a production line employing over 200 people per shift making and packing easter eggs. following a successful spell in manufacturing Ian moved to take up a role in the UK corporate engineering team working across the manufacturing sites on a range of projects including amongst other things energy conservation, production optimisation and commissioning an effluent plant. Ian's next change of role saw him take up position as manager of the research and development facility at Bournville followed by a move into project management where he worked on a number of capital projects. Having achieved chartered engineer status Ian's last engineering role was as a senior process development engineer exploring alternative technologies for a variety of business processes until in 2002 he moved to become Environment manager for the Cadbury UK & Ireland business. In 2004 Ian was appointed to the position of Environment manager for the Europe Middle East and Africa region responsible for raising levels of Environmental performance and capabilities across the region which kept him busy until November 2007 when he was appointed to his current role as global Head of Environment at Cadbury Schweppes and asked to lead the Purple Goes Green sustainability programme.

Louise Nicholls has worked for Marks and Spencer for 19 years;8 years as a Food Technologist, and then short placement with IT and HR before commencing managing Ethical trade 9 years ago. As time has gone on her role has developed to encompass managing for foods implementation and development of M&S Plan A, a 100 point 5 year plan to address a wide range of environmental and social issues. She deals with issues as diverse as sustainable fish sourcing, labour standards in factories, animal welfare, food miles, genetic modification, fair trade and climate change.
Louise was a board member on the Ethical Trading Initiative board 2004-2007and has sat on Sedex board since its inception. Louise also chairs the Sedex Associate Auditor Group. A key part of her role is interaction with a wide range of stakeholders and suppliers. In the last 12 months she has travelled to America, South Africa, Kenya and Europe meeting with over 800 suppliers and local stakeholders to understand their issues and perspectives.

Karin Bogaers holds a Master of Science degree in International Business Economics from Aalborg University in Denmark. One of her key activities at BSCI was the development of a monitoring system for working conditions in agricultural supply chains. Part of that process was intensive consultation with retailers, experts and stakeholders on working conditions and sustainability in agriculture and primary production.

Prior to joining the Rainforest Alliance, Mercedes worked for a number of food and retail companies including Wal-Mart and Diageo and also co-founded Hawkwood International, a London-based organic foods supplier to UK retailers and wholesalers, sourcing organic food and produce from around the world.
Mercedes has an MBA from the London Business School, an MS in Food Science from the University of Reading, and a Technical Engineering in Food Agriculture and Food Industries degree from Universitat Politecnica de Barcelona.

Wilfrid Legg is currently Head of the Policies and Environment Division in the OECD Trade and Agriculture Directorate, where he has worked since 1981. His main areas of expertise are in agricultural and environmental policy analysis; sustainable agriculture; and in measuring and evaluating agricultural policy developments, using the internationally recognised Producer Support Estimates that he helped develop. He was educated at the Universities of London, Leicester and Reading and was a Research Fellow in Sussex University prior to moving to the OECD. He is a member of the Steering Group of EuroChoices magazine, which deals with agriculture, food and resource issues. In 2003-2004 he was President of the Agricultural Economics Society.

Philip Kiriro is a meat and dairy farmer from the Rift Valley Province who also farms crops such as bananas, maize and beans. He is a founding member of the East African Farmer’s Federation and is now the farmer’s president for the EAFF. The EAFF is a non-political, non-profit and a democratic apex organization of all Framers of Eastern Africa. Its role is to voice legitimate concerns and interests of farmers of the region with the aim of enhancing regional cohesiveness and social-economic status of the farmers.
The Federation, apart from voicing views and demands of the farmers on crosscutting issues will also endeavor to promote regional integration of the farmers through trade and good neighbourness.

Michael Mapinogos Saguisihan is PAKISAMA’s Regional Vice President for Mindanao. He served as a Council Member of the Coconut Agro-industry Development Corporation from 2001 to 2006. CIADEC is a coalition of different NGOs and POs in the province which aims to develop the coconut industry and pursue the advocacy on the coconut levy recovery. Mr. Saguisihan undertook research on the conduct of coco-based farming systems during this period. His base organization, Kalagan Multi-Purpose Cooperative, is one of the Moro tribal groupings based in San Isidro, Davao Oriental. This cooperative which he chairs is focused on education and marketing of farm products, especially banana and coconut. Moreover, Mr. Saguisihan is an active local organizer and educator of the Akbayan Party which enabled him to heighten the farmers’ socio-political awareness, particularly in finding connections between local issues and the larger national context. While doing these, Mr. Saguisihan is also actively collaborating with local government agencies in the extension work of Municipal Agriculture Office. He is Chair of the Municipal Cooperative Development Council and Vice Chair of the Provincial Cooperative Development Council since last year. Through these councils, he engaged in advocacy work to ensure that relevant government programs and services reach the cooperatives. Mr. Saguisihan went to Business Office Management Course in Polytechnic College in Davao Oriental.

Mark Cropper studied Agricultural and Forest Sciences at Christ Church, Oxford from 1979 to 1982 and, after one year's work experience in the UK extension service, obtained his Doctor of Philosophy in the "Growth and development of Sheep" at Edinburgh University in 1988.
He spent seven years in post-doctorate research, working on various projects related to animal production systems in Scotland, New Zealand and Galicia, Spain before joining the European Commission's Directorate-General for Agriculture in December 1994. His first post was in the "Beef and Sheepmeat" Unit, working on the EU sheep premium regime.
After a brief period at the Unit for the "Co-ordination of Agricultural Research", he rejoined the Beef Unit to manage the "IDEA pilot project on the Electronic Identification of Animals" and worked on the legislation, which established in 2000 the compulsory EU beef labelling scheme.
He has been an administrator in the Unit for "Agricultural Policy Analysis and Perspectives" since 2002 where he has worked on the major dossiers relating to the CAP reform process, most recently the 2008 Health Check. He is currently responsible for agricultural research issues in DG Agriculture.

Gleadell Agriculture Ltd is the third largest Grain merchant in the UK, buying 2 million tonnes from UK farmers as well as distributing significant volumes of fertiliser and seed. The company is equally owned by Toepfer International, one of the world's largest traders in grains, non food grain ingredients, fertilisers and oilseeds and Union InVivo the pre-eminent provider of agricultural services to the French co-operative sector. Gleadell operate from five offices throughout England and are one of the leading exporters of UK grains, pulses and oilseeds to the EU and further afield from many ports around the UK. Gleadell operate a large Grain Pool, trading farmers grain on farmers' behalf, and was the first UK merchant to offer minimum / maximum priced contracts to farmers and end consumers in 2004.

Richard Perkins works for WWF-UK as a Senior Policy Adviser on Agricultural Supply Chains. He aims to inspire businesses that rely on agricultural raw materials to measurably reduce their key environmental impacts. He has been a member of Unilever's Sustainable Agriculture Advisory Board since it started in 2000. He is a member of the Global Reporting Initiative Food Processing Sector Supplement Working Group and sits on the Steering Committees of the Natural Value Initiative and the Food Climate Research Network.
He has worked for WWF on agriculture since 1999 first on agricultural policy reform and since 2001 on engaging with businesses to help them to improve their key environmental impacts. Between 2004 and 2007 he worked on sugarcane for WWF and was responsible for the establishment of the Better Sugarcane Initiative, a multi-stakeholder initiative to improve the key global social and environmental impacts of sugar cane production. He was responsible for guiding the early inception of WWF's recently published work on virtual water and more recently has developed farm and landscape level indicators of the key environmental impacts of agriculture which he is using to help progressive food companies and multi-stakeholder groups.

Eduardo Sampaio is both a producer implementing the UTZ CERTIFIED sustainability program on his own farm and an agronomist training and giving support services to others on meeting the criteria of the UTZ program and skills in long term improvements.
He studied Agronomical Engineering at the University of São Paulo and soon after finishing started working on projects such as the management of smallholder groups for Cooxupe, the largest Coffee Cooperative in Brazil.
Mr. Sampaio has worked on various green coffee projects from milling and sorting operations related to Brazilian beans, to crop forecasting and using his expertise in coffee production to help implementation of coffee fields and processing in Sothern China. Implementing for among others: General Foods (USA & Brazil) and Jacobs Suchard (Germany).
His expertise in management, production, milling of Arabica coffee across the most important production areas in the country as well as his work in the development and promotion of specialty coffees shows his passion for achieving sustainable agriculture environments and lead the processes necessary.

AB Sustain specialises in the development of greenhouse gas reduction models and environmental protection programmes for businesses linked to the agriculture sector.
Tim has worked closely with PAI and AIC in the development of the UK feed industry assurance programmes, with a particular focus on ensuring the safety of feed ingredients. With PAI, Tim partnered the development of the AIC FEMAS sustainability module in conjunction with the BRC and the AIC. He is a member of several feed industry working groups at both UK and EU level. Tim is a certificated lead assessor, with qualifications and experience in the application of HACCP to various industries and has undertaken sustainability audits in South America and other audit work in Europe, Africa and Asia.

Brian is responsible for the commercial and technical issues concerning nitrogen use efficiency technologies from Agrotain International in EMEA and India. Over 130 million tons of nitrogen fertilizer literally fuels global crop production, but it is also a potent pollutant considering agriculture is the major source for emissions of nitrous oxide a potent greenhouse gas. The products and technologies of Agrotain International prevent losses of nitrogen into the environment following fertilizer applications while ensuring more nitrogen remains available to growing crop for optimal productivity.
His career has included different facets of agriculture such International Marketing Manager with ScottsMiracle-Gro, Research Manager with Bayer CropSciences and even the hands-on work of his family's farm. After obtaining his PhD in Crop Sciences from the University of Illinois, his professional pursuits started in the central United States followed by assignments throughout Europe. Throughout Europe, Africa and India, he collaborates with universities,governments and foundations to advance the science of nitrogen management. He also works directly with major agricultural businesses and farm organizations to make quantifiable improvements in crop sustainability and productivity.

Keith Jones has been the Director of Stewardship and Sustainable Agriculture at CropLife International since 1 October 2001.
Prior to that, he was Head of the Integrated Pest Management Technologies section at the Natural Resources Institute in the University of Greenwich (United Kingdom). He has been team leader of a World Bank funded project in Uzbekistan which involved providing expert advice on the integration of chemical and biological control in cotton IPM. Keith has also managed a 5-year EC funded IPM programme which included the training of farmers and community-based groups in IPM practices, as well as testing IPM technologies through participatory methodologies, and involved close contacts with NGOs, government departments and community-based organisations. The numerous IPM projects Keith has been involved with has taken him to nearly 50 countries all over the world which has allowed him to build up a wide-ranging knowledge of the sector.
Keith has a BSc in Science Subjects covering chemistry, applied entomology, parasitology and environmental studies PhD from the University of Reading.

Nigel Kerby graduated from the University of Leeds in 1975 with a BSc in Botany and in 1979 with a PhD. During his academic career he worked with Sir William Stewart in Dundee on nitrogen-fixing cyanobacteria and was a lecturer in microbiology at the University of Dundee. Since 1992 he has been the Managing Director of Mylnefield Research Services Ltd. (MRS), protecting and commercialising the intellectual assets and resources of the Scottish Crop Research Institute. He has established long-term partnerships with leading international companies, sustaining globally important research in plant breeding, pathology, physiology, and analytical chemistry. The products of MRS are widely consumed in the UK and are market leaders in their categories; the sale of these products makes a significant contribution to the UK economy. MRS has made charitable donations of £1.88 million since 2000 to support scientific research, education and the public understanding of science. Nigel Kerby is a frequent visitor to China with commercial agricultural, food and environmental interests. He is a Director of the China Britain Business Council and chairs their Innovation and Technology Forum. Recently, he joined the Board of Directors of a Chinese cooperative joint venture that is growing and marketing fruit produced in China.
